(More customer reviews)I gave it 4 stars because this is not a top of the line / latest technology amp.It is, however, an amazing performer.My daily drive has been rejuvenated.I Picked up the G1700 on sale last week.As a musician and audio enthusiast, I appreciate good clean sound, but have always had a problem spending my hard earned dough on good amps.A great-sounding system is the result of many different components, but after installing this (and the JL Audio G4500 4-channel), I'm convinced I should have started here all along.
Class D (highly efficient, cool running) technology is important in Tucson, where summer heat can make hot amplifiers hotter, robbing power from the system.I have this running a 10" Alpine Type R sub.Alpine specs rate the sub at 500W RMS, but this amp pushing 350W is more than enough bass.
Notes from the install: #1 this amp (all G-series amps?) does not have an on-board fuse.You'll need a fuse block near the 12V power input.#2 the amp REQUIRES 4 gauge power and ground wires.Don't take a chance with anything less (6 or 8 gauge).Extra nice features:Differential preamp inputs for less signal noise.Optional +6Db bass boost @48 Hz.
IMO $420 retail for a discontinued amp is a little much.But if you can find this thing on sale, you can be fully assured that one piece of your high fidelity car audio system is squared away.By the way, no DIY installer should be without this book!
